What do you enjoy about being a traffic engineer/transportation planner?

A former professor told our class that robots will take over most of the employment positions available on the market, but engineering is one they cannot replace. The strategies and critical thinking involved in the field of engineering is something only we humans are capable of. As a transportation engineer, I love the challenges brought on by the profession. I get to work alongside professionals in many other disciplines and learn to approach problems from different angles. It is a mind-opening profession.

What are your interests outside of traffic engineering?

I am interested in outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and kayaking. My friends and I plan these activities every now and then to take breaks from the fast-paced city life. I have also started snowboarding as a new hobby.

What excites you about the future of transportation?

As technology continues to advance, dramatic changes to urban transportation are inevitable to make travel faster, safer, and better for the environment. I am excited about the potential of new technologies such as driverless cars and electric scooters transforming the world for the better. I am also excited about how engineers take these new technologies into account to make transportation safer and more secure.
