    • The overarching goal of the Rock Creek East II Livability Study was to promote safe travel for residents and visitors to the project area, and to improve the operational efficiency of the transportation network for all modes of travel.

    • The study area included the Ward 4 neighborhoods of Petworth, Crestwood, Brightwood Park, and 16th Street Heights in Washington, DC.

    • Study emphasized safety and access improvements around public facilities including but not limited to: schools, parks, recreational centers, transit stops and stations, and other key community services

    • Recommendations to enhance community quality of life as experienced by the people who live, work, and recreate in the Rock Creek East study area

    • Livability recognizes that strong communities rely on the interplay among key development areas including transportation, public health, housing, cultural resources, and the natural environment

    • Outcomes of the livability study were aimed at on the ground changes such as enhanced pedestrian crossings, more accessible bus stops, geometric adjustments that support intersection safety, increased green spaces, attractive streetscapes, signage for better driver information, updates to traffic signal timing, and speed controls in sensitive areas

    • Assessed the public’s perception of livability based on conditions along the 14th Street corridor

    • Conducted a gap study to determine adequate gaps in traffic for pedestrians crossing 14th Street

    • Conducted traffic signal and all-way stop sign warrant studies to determine opportunities for corridor safety and operational improvements
